Mercy Robotic Surgery
Patient Testimony
“Choosing robotics over a traditional hysterectomy
was an absolute no-brainer,” said Lisa Schneberger, 43, a math teacher
and mother of three. “The second I woke up from surgery, I had zero
pain. The only thing I could tell was that I had a little soreness, like
I’d done a tough ab workout the day before. I still can’t believe how
easy it was.”
Prior to finding out about having a robotic
hysterectomy, Lisa was a bit anxious and she put off the surgery because
recovery time after a traditional hysterectomy averages four to six
weeks.
“I’m a teacher and a typical recovery would have
taken too long to have the surgery during the school year, or it would
have taken half my summer and I couldn’t do that with young and active
children,” she said. “My sister-in-law had a laparoscopic hysterectomy a
year before and she was off work six weeks and still had soreness and
tired easily her first week back at work. She described her first 12
hours after surgery as difficult and very painful, whereas I woke up
wondering if they had actually done the surgery or not.”
Lisa scheduled her robotic surgery a week before
spring break, in order to give herself a total of two weeks off. “I
could have gone back sooner,” she said. “I could have just taken off
spring break.”
Besides no pain and a short recovery time, the four
incisions for the surgery are by anyone’s definition “itty bitty.”
“I’ve told everyone that it’s the easiest surgery
I’ve ever had,” she said, in comparison to a prior tonsillectomy and
hernia repair. “For anybody who has wanted the surgery but has put it
off because they are anxious about recovery time – they now have this
amazing option. No one should put it off for those reasons any longer –
I’m so glad I had it done.” |
