 Gamma Knife
Gamma Knife surgery makes it possible to treat
formerly untreatable lesions, making one-day brain surgery an amazing
reality. The opening of the Mercy NeuroScience Institute Gamma Knife
Center is part of Mercy’s continuing commitment to providing the highest
quality healthcare for patients.
Gamma Knife allows neurosurgeons to use beams of
gamma radiation to destroy brain tumors and functional brain disorders
without incisions or bleeding. There are almost 200 Gamma Knife systems
in operation worldwide, and now the unit at Mercy is one of those
selected few. Gamma Knife technology is dedicated solely to brain tumors
and has given patients an important alternative to the limits of
conventional surgery. Physicians who are members of the Gamma Knife team
