Making an Appointment & Preparing for Your Visit

On a daily basis, the administrative office at Mercy NSI answer questions about services, programs, treatment options and general advice. If patients don’t have a specific physician, Richard Vertrees Smith, MD, medical director of the NSI, and Kay Oglesby, RN, clinical coordinator, help with patient referrals to the right neurospecialist. This patient centered care coordination helps guarantee appropriate treatment in a timely manner.

Appointments with all NeuroScience Institute
physicians may be scheduled by calling
1-800-99-Mercy (1-800-996-3729) or (405) 749-7000 Monday through Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm

New patients must have a referring physician. Prior to your first visit, we will mail you a map and confirm your appointment.

Appropriate workers compensation cases are accepted.

Patients under age 16 are normally referred to a pediatric hospital unless accepted by a NeuroScience physician.

Insurance
Check with your employer or health plan to see if you have access to neurological care through Mercy and if an insurance approval is required. If your insurance company does not cover treatment at Mercy, ask what you can do to obtain this coverage. Write down the name of the person with whom you spoke for future reference.

Pre-certification or authorization by your insurance company is often needed prior to treatment and reauthorizations may be required throughout treatment. Ask your insurance company about co-pays or deductibles for which you will be responsible. Failure to follow your insurance company’s instructions may lead to additional out-of-pocket fees before you see the doctor.

Your insurance claims, both primary and secondary, can be filed for you. We will work to help you receive full benefit from your insurance and will respond to any requests from insurers for additional medical information.

The staff at Mercy is also available to help answer questions about insurance verification and/or prepayment requirements.
