Wellness Center Physician Receives Rookie Award

Ardmore — The Oklahoma Osteopathic Association presented Wellness Center physician Steven Watkins, D.O., with the “Rookie Physician of the Year” award during the 107th annual convention this month in Oklahoma City. Watkins received the award as a young physician who has excelled in his field during his first two years of practicing medicine.

A 2001 graduate of Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Watkins completed his internship in 2003 and his residency in 2005 at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant. He is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and is a board certified family practice physician.

“I was surprised, but honored to receive this award,” said Dr. Watkins, who serves as medical director of the Wellness Center. “My first few years of practicing private medicine in Ardmore have been both challenging and rewarding. I love what I do and wouldn’t want to practice anywhere else but in my hometown.”

Mercy Memorial Health Center is a member of Mercy Health System of Oklahoma and the Sisters of Mercy Health System.
