Wound Expertise at Mercy Memorial
Ardmore — Mercy Memorial’s Wound Center and
Hyperbaric Medicine team have stepped up the level of care, gaining
certifications in hyperbaric therapy.
“We offer the most advanced wound care and
hyperbaric therapy,” said Gay Thomas, MS, BSN, RN, wound center manager.
“This certification proves our commitment to our patients, allowing us
to provide the very best care possible.”
Thomas and Lisa Teafatiller, RN, recently received
hyperbaric registered nurse certification, while Joel Sabangan, M.D.,
pulmonologist and wound center physician, received hyperbaric
technologist certification. The certifications allow them to stay
abreast of advancements in hyperbaric medicine.
“We can treat any type of wound,” said Joel Sabangan,
M.D. “We were the first to utilize an ultrasound debrider in the state
which provides an additional method of wound care. The debrider helps
remove dead tissue and stimulates healthy tissue to heal faster with the
use of guided ultrasound.”
Mercy Memorial’s Wound Center and Hyperbaric
Medicine, which opened in 2003 and is located on the south campus of
Mercy Memorial, provides care to a broad range of patients.
Hyperbaric therapy is a painless medical treatment
in which the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while inside a
pressurized chamber. It is an effective treatment for non-healing skin
ulcers, decompression sickness and failed skin grafts, among other uses.
In addition to hyperbaric therapy, Mercy Memorial’s
Wound Center treats patients with acute and chronic diabetic, pressure,
arterial and venous ulcers, as well as burns and spider bites.
Patients do not need a referral to be seen at Mercy
Memorial’s Wound Center. For more information or to schedule an
