Mercy Memorial Adds Latest Breakthrough in Ultrasound Imaging Technology

Ardmore — Mercy Memorial Health Center is the only place in a 100-mile radius with the most advanced ultrasound technology that allows parents to see their unborn babies like never before.

“This is amazing technology,” said Jenni Jones, manager of Mercy Memorial’s Radiology department. “We now provide our pregnant patients with 3D and 4D images of their babies. With the 3D technology, parents see a snapshot. Without this technology, parents have to use their imaginations more, but with this new imaging equipment, they see all the details. And with the 4D capabilities, parents see their baby in real-time. It’s live.”

The Phillips iU22 ultrasound provides patients with crystal clear images. Besides expectant parents getting a chance to see a truer picture of their baby, the technology provides a clearer view for a range of general procedures, everything from a liver lesion to a ruptured spleen, and a thickened Achilles tendon to a joint abscess.

“Because this is such advanced technology, we’ve had expectant parents drive from Oklahoma City to Ardmore,” said Jones. “We’re offering southern Oklahoma breakthrough technology.”

In addition to providing clearer images, the new ultrasound is faster, making for shorter exams. It also allows technicians the ability to guide catheter and needles in 3D space, without exposing patients to any radiation.

The new ultrasound also features an adjustable, articulating flat screen monitor that can be positioned for viewing from almost any direction. This gives patients the opportunity to see images during scanning as well. The system can be operated by voice-command when the sonographer is in tight quarters or needs both hands for screening.

“Mercy Memorial has the only ultrasound machine on the market that is ergonomically designed to reduce fatigue and injuries for technicians,” added Jones.
