Mercy Beefs Up its Nursing Leadership

Oklahoma City—Mercy has named three new nursing directors to the team: Tammy Drum, Rhonda Hanan and Pam Spanbauer — all of Edmond.

“We have some exciting new leadership in place and as a Magnet hospital, we lead in a way that gives our nurses a voice every day,” said Linda Fanning, RN, MS. “Ultimately, this kind of empowerment makes a difference to patients. They receive better care because Mercy nurses are engaged at every level.”

As the new director of nurses for women’s and children’s services, Tammy Drum, RN, oversees Mercy BirthPlace, neonatal intensive care and pediatrics. With a bachelor’s in nursing from University of Central Oklahoma, she is currently completing a master’s in nursing from Southern Nazarene University.

Rhonda Hanan, RN, MS, is the director of specialty services and oversees Mercy’s intensive care unit, emergency department, stroke program, as well as other areas. Hanan received her bachelor’s in nursing from University of Central Oklahoma and a master’s in business management from Southern Nazarene University.

Pam Spanbauer, RN, MEd, is the director of nursing services for medical/surgical which includes palliative and wound care, cardio/pulmonary and nursing education. Spanbauer received both her bachelor’s in nursing and master’s in education from University of Central Oklahoma.

“We have a very dedicated team of nursing directors,” said Fanning. “They give all our nurses a voice in how we better care for our patients. They will continue to lead our team of nurses to make the Mercy difference every day.”

Mercy Health Center, the first Magnet hospital in Oklahoma and among only 3 percent of hospitals in the nation to be awarded Magnet status, is a member of Mercy Health System of Oklahoma and the Sisters of Mercy Health System. Magnet-designated facilities: report higher patient satisfaction rates, deliver better patient outcomes, provide more nursing care at the bedside of patients and consistently outperform non-magnet organizations.
