Who’s Who Names Mercy Doc Professional of the Year
Oklahoma City — Rebecca Stough, M.D., director of
imaging and clinical director at Mercy Women’s Center, has been named
Cambridge Who’s Who professional of the year in radiology. Only two male
and two female members in each discipline are named nationally each
year.
“Dr. Stough is one of the nation’s leading breast
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) radiologists,” said Alan Hollingsworth,
M.D., medical director of Mercy oncology services. “Because of her
expertise with both MRI interpretation as well as the technology
development, she has become a featured international speaker. It’s her
experience since 2003 in reading these high-tech images, along with our
other breast radiologists, that gives Mercy a leadership position in
breast MRI that is comparable to the leading cancer centers in the U.S.
where breast MRI was pioneered. In fact, many cancer centers in the
country are only now beginning to incorporate breast MRI into their
practices.”
Dr. Stough was selected to Who’s Who because of her
academic achievement, leadership abilities and professional
accomplishments. With a background that spans almost 30 years in
radiology, and more recently breast MRI, she has not only performed or
supervised more than 10,000 breast MRIs, but also has trained many
physicians on how to perform and interpret the complex images.
With breast MRI technology, hundreds of images of
the breast are taken without any radiation exposure, allowing a
radiologist to “travel” by computer through the tissue in order to
identify, diagnose and if necessary biopsy breast abnormalities
demonstrated only on MRI. With Dr. Stough in a leadership role, Mercy
was selected as one of three worldwide test sites for a new advancement
in breast imaging. Bilateral 3-D Spiral RODEO MRI – the latest upgrade
in breast-dedicated MRI – provides the highest quality breast images
available anywhere to detect breast cancer.
Dr. Stough, who received her medical degree from the
University of Oklahoma and is board certified in radiology, will be
listed in the 2009 Who’s Who which is published in January 2010. As the
professional of the year in radiology, a full page will be dedicated to
Dr. Stough and her work.
