Mercy Receives Green Award
Oklahoma City—Mercy Health Center has been
awarded a 5-star energy rating for meeting all energy cost index air
filtration standards. Translation: Mercy uses the most energy-efficient,
longest-lasting air filters available. For co-workers, patients and
families, it means Mercy’s indoor air is some of the cleanest around.
“Mercy is committed to providing clean indoor air to
our co-workers and our patients,” said Di Smalley, president and chief
executive officer of Mercy Health System of Oklahoma. “The Sisters of
Mercy have long been good stewards of the planet and we will continue to
find ways to conserve energy and reduce waste.”
The 5-star energy rating is given by y Camfil Farr — a
world leader in air filtration and clean air solutions. Besides the
5-star rating, Mercy was also recognized by the American Society for
Healthcare Engineering for reducing energy intensity by 15 percent.
Here’s just a short list of how everything is
turning up green at Mercy:
-
Mercy has gone green with cleaning chemicals.
-
Mercy has eliminated 99.9 percent of plastic water
bottle usage.
-
Mercy has switched from Styrofoam containers to a
100-percent biodegradable product.
-
More than 20,000 pounds of cardboard is recycled
every month.
-
New paper towel dispensers have been installed in
all public restrooms in the main hospital. With the change from rolls of
paper towels to precut paper dispensers, Mercy has already seen a
30-percent reduction in paper usage.
