Quality indicators:

Why should clinical safety be important to you?

Because everyone benefits. When safety is improved, errors are reduced, potential harm is avoided and the care we provide is improved.

We look for ways to improve

Drawing upon the experience of others
Mercy Memorial participates with 20 other Mercy hospitals in a three state area to find ways to improve safety for our patients. Those efforts include:

  • Using existing data to evaluate the potential risk for medical errors

  • Sharing information that results in important changes in the delivery of care

  • Ongoing education about safety practices

Ensuring patient safety
Mercy Memorial joined hospitals across the nation in identifying ways to reduce surgical infections and ensure patient safety.  In fact, Mercy Memorial is among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for reducing surgical site infections.  Learn more.

In addition, the hospital uses a time out protocol for correct site surgery that gives nurses, surgeons and medical teams a final checklist to make sure they are performing the right surgery on the right patient.
