Why should bar-code technology be important to you?

Because 7,000 hospital patients in the U.S. die each year due to medication errors, Mercy Memorial made the decision to provide our patients with the safest environment possible.  This technology, which verifies the administration of medication at the bedside of patients, is critical in reducing the potential for error.

Nurses use a handheld scanner to make sure a medication's bar code matches the patient. The computerized process confirms the right patient, the right drug, the right time, the right route and the right dose.

Bar-code technology

The safest possible method for medication administration

Mercy Memorial was the first hospital in southern Oklahoma and is among only 5 percent of US hospitals that have bedside scanning systems to reduce medication errors. This state-of-the-art bar-code technology makes sure that patients take the right medicine at the right time. The Sisters of Mercy Health System implemented this technology in all its hospitals.
