Quality indicators:

Why should pain management be important to you?

Because managing your pain promotes physical and psychological wellness and is an important part of your overall healing.  Research has shown patients heal faster, have fewer complications, and are able to go home and resume normal activities more quickly and more comfortably when pain has been managed.

Visit Mercy Memorial's health information library to find out more about pain management.

Pain management

Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. Mercy Memorial is serious about making you as comfortable as possible during your hospital stay.

It is normal to expect a certain amount of pain following surgery; however, if pain does not subside with pain medication, there may be a more serious problem.

Nurses trained to monitor pain

At Mercy Memorial, nurses are trained to assess and monitor a patient's pain. All licensed nurses and clinical service managers complete a pain management course and pass an annual competency test.

Your pain level is monitored throughout your hospital stay and is recorded as a part of your medical chart to be certain you are as comfortable as possible.

Improved treatments reduce pain

With today's new and improved pain medications, there is no reason for anyone to tolerate severe pain.
