Healthcare at a New Level:
Present significant growth
Ardmore has been recognized as having one of the nation’s
top economic development programs for cities its size and has witnessed
several significant growth factors in recent years.

The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, with a
worldwide reach through its three operating divisions – agricultural,
plant biology and forage improvement – awarded 55 grants
representing approximately $11 million in 2004. Over $200 million has
been invested in Noble Foundation research projects within the last few
years.

Michelin
tires, a longtime mainstay of southern
Oklahoma, has a strong and growing plant in Ardmore and
is investing up to $200 million in plant improvements and expansion over the next five years.

In the past five years, several national
chains – Dollar Tree, Dot Foods, Hardy Foods,
Dollar General and Best Buy have established distributions centers in southern
Oklahoma, taking advantage of the I-35 transit route. A
major Wal-Mart distribution center has recently been built a few miles
south of Ardmore on I-35.

Other new employers establishing plants in the
Ardmore area include Intech Corporation and East Jordan Iron
Works.

The Chickasaw Nation has emerged over the last three
years as the six-county area’s largest employer with 3,500 people
working in its business and entertainment industries.

Carter County remains the highest producer of oil
and gas in Oklahoma. Valero Oil Company has invested more
than $100 million in refinery improvements and has an aggressive
growth and distribution plan.

Ardmore is well positioned as a “super city” and
part of the I-35 boom, one of the 10
emerging megapolitan areas in the
nation.
