Mercy Memorial Foundation

Frequently asked questions

Is my gift tax deductible?

Mercy Memorial Health Center Foundation filed an IRS form 1023 in August 2005 for designation as a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. We are eligible to receive matching gifts from corporations and organizations as well.

I can only make a small gift at this time. Will it still make an impact?

Every gift makes a difference. The cumulative effect of several small gifts can be significant, helping fund the start-up of a new project or enabling a patient to receive services that might otherwise be unavailable. In this way, the power of your gift is magnified many times over.

How do I make a gift in memory or honor of someone?

You can make a gift in memory or in honor of a special person by indicating the person's name on the Foundation donation form or on your check. Also include the name and address of the person to whom you would like us to send an acknowledgement.

Will I receive an acknowledgement for my gift?

Yes. The Foundation will acknowledge all donations by mail as soon as possible.

Can Mercy redirect my gift for use by another institution?

No. The Sisters of Mercy and the Foundation Board of Directors ensure that its affiliates are wise stewards of the resources entrusted to them. When you make your gift to the Mercy Memorial Health Center Foundation, it is protected and cannot be redirected.

What are Mercy Memorial Foundation's donor confidentiality policies?

In addition to the HIPAA privacy policy, the Foundation adheres to the principles found in the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy.

Does the Foundation accept in-kind gifts?

In general, yes. Our Board does require though that the donated item(s) can be used by the hospital, the Foundation or has significant value that can be transferred into our endowment fund or converted to operating funds.

Does the Foundation need volunteers?

The Foundation has opportunities for those who have an interest in fundraising, special events, general office work, or serving on one of our standing Board committees. For those who prefer to work directly with patients, doctors, and hospital staff, we work closely with MMHC Volunteer Services to connect volunteers with those opportunities.

What opportunities are there for recognition?

The Foundation publicly recognizes most donors through various types of publications and publicity, including newsletters, a donor honor roll, our website, and press releases to the media, when appropriate. Gifts of $25,000 or higher may also be recognized through the naming of a room, program, building, or endowment fund when approved by our Board of Directors.

How can I get more information about making a gift?

Mercy Memorial Health Center's Foundation office is staffed by professionals who are experienced in assisting you with all types of charitable gifts. We will help you and your financial/legal advisors design a giving plan that is in your best interest and that fulfills your desire to help meet the needs of southern Oklahoma. For a confidential discussion of giving options, contact us by e-mail or call us at 580-220-6712.
