Diabetes Quality Measures

Quality measures can be used to report how well a hospital provides care for patients. Eleven key indicators have been identified for measuring the quality of care for patients who are diagnosed with diabetes.

  1. Inpatient diabetes team

  2. Certified diabetes educator on staff

  3. Diabetes education program

  4. Diabetes education program recognition by ADA educational recognition program

  5. Diabetes education-training requirement for staff nurses

  6. Availability of diabetes physician specialists

  7. Screening and treatment of hyperglycemia

  8. Treatment of hyperglycemia in critically ill

  9. Prevention and treatment of hypoglycemia

  10. Bedside glucose monitoring

  11. Discharge planning

Although diabetes is a chronic and incurable disease (with the exception of gestational diabetes), with proper medical care, clinical therapies, diet, hygiene, and exercise, symptoms and complications can be successfully treated and managed. Learn more.
