Hospice The hospice team
Considered to be the model for
quality, compassionate care at the end of life, hospice involves a
team-oriented approach of expert medical care, pain management, and
emotional and spiritual support based upon the patient's wishes.
Directed by the patient's
primary physician, Mercy's multidisciplinary team includes nurses,
physicians, counselors, pastoral care,
social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, physical or occupational therapists, home
care aides and volunteers.
Hospice also helps prepare family and
friends for the loss of a loved one. Individual and family counseling,
volunteer visits and support groups are available.
The hospice's bereavement team
is dedicated to providing compassionate support.
Nursing team
Mercy Hospice is the only
program in Oklahoma that has a team of
registered daytime nurses who are certified by the National Hospice and
Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). For patients, it means their nurse has
been specially trained and are experts in hospice care, pain management, symptom management
and grief support.
Family
caregivers
Family and friends are
important members of the team. Those who provide care are trained to care
for their loved one. A member of the hospice team is available to you 24
hours a day to answer questions and provide assistance.
