What Makes Us Special
Mercy Health Center was the first Magnet hospital in
Oklahoma and among only a small percentage of hospitals in
the nation to be awarded Magnet status.
Studies have shown that Magnet-designated facilities
report higher patient satisfaction rates, deliver better
patient outcomes and consistently outperform non-magnet
organizations.
Mercy Health Center is also the most experienced hospital
in Oklahoma in the treatment of all types of strokes. Since
2001, more than 50 percent of stroke patients treated at
Mercy within six hours have recovered in a week or less.
In addition, thanks to a team of metro physicians and
clinicians committed to patients, some Oklahomans are
receiving the best advice available. Beginning in the fall
of 2005, specialists from various hospitals have been
meeting each week at Mercy to map out the best brain
treatment for each patient’s particular case.
The weekly Radiosurgery Case Presentation Conference
evaluates and recommends the most appropriate radiosurgical
treatment options for certain disorders on a case-by-case
basis.
“Some of Oklahoma’s best medical minds collaborate to
determine the most effective form of treatment for their
condition,” said Richard V. Smith, M.D., medical director of
Mercy NeuroScience Institute. “Patients have the benefit of
multiple physicians, multiple minds looking at their
condition from different directions.”
Mercy Health Center grew out of the compassion of one
person, foundress Catherine McAuley, who cared enough about
people to invest her inheritance in the human soul. Today,
Mercy has more than 1,700 employees, 800 physicians and 70
areas of medical expertise.
Oklahoma Heart Hospital — one of the most recent
additions to the Mercy campus — was the first all-digital
hospital in the nation, as well as the first hospital in
Oklahoma dedicated to cardiovascular care.
Mercy NeuroScience Institute — the largest concentration
of neuroscience specialists in the southwest — provides the
most comprehensive neurological care in the state.
Regardless of the injury or illness — be it multiple
sclerosis, brain tumors, spinal injuries or severe headaches
— Mercy has a highly specialized team to offer the most
advanced care available.
In addition, Mercy’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care
Unit delivers the highest level of medical care to
critically ill newborns, and Mercy Women’s Center offers
breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging, digital mammography,
comprehensive risk assessment for breast cancer and bone
density testing. To the minutest detail, Mercy offers
compassionate care and the most advanced medical treatments.
