I Can Cope
The American Cancer Society's "I Can Cope" is a series of education classes for cancer survivors. Each class covers a different subject that relates to survivorship. Topics include learning about cancer, nutrition during cancer treatment, managing side-effects of cancer and its treatments, and self esteem and intimacy.

Stress Relief Classes for Cancer Patients
If you are having trouble juggling it all, come visit our stress relief classes a the Mercy Cancer Resource Center. Learn about tools to help you cope with the stress that cancer can cause in your life.

Expressive Writing
A class designed for cancer patients, their families and friends to learn how to use writing to relieve the stress associated with cancer. No previous writing experience is needed. No deadlines and no pressure. Writing can be comforting during all phases of cancer survivorship. Come learn how to express yourself through different writing styles - journaling, creative writing, poetry, blogging, or whatever you chose to try.

Labyrinth Gathering
A labyrinth is a path, a tool for personal and spiritual renewal. It is not a maze, and there is no wrong way to walk it. Come walk the labyrinth with us and discuss its impact on your cancer journey. Learn how to walk Mercy's labyrinth and gain peace from an ancient practice. This class is designed for cancer patients, their families and friends. This is a low-impact, slow walking activity with great emotional benefits.

Musical Discoveries
No previous musical experience needed. Listen and make music. A class designed for cancer patients, their families and friends to learn how to use music to combat the stress associated with cancer.

Relaxation Relief
Learn how to cope with anxiety and distress by using mind and breathing techniques in this weekly class to help cancer patients, their families and friends reduce their level of stress associated with cancer. The class teaches deep breathing techniques, meditation, guided imagery and the power of prayer.

Momentum (transplant)
For cancer survivors, and their caregivers, who are considering or have undergone transplant as part of their cancer treatment.

PROMISE: Mastectomy Support
A support group for people who have experienced a mastectomy or have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Through regular contact with others in similar situations, members share a common bond, receive emotional support and get current information from a certified instructor.

PUSH (all cancers)
PUSH, or Positively Uniting Survivors through Hope, is a monthly support and resource group open to all survivors, and caregivers, of any type of cancer.

ThyCa OKC (thyroid cancer)
Hosting the only support group in Oklahoma for survivors of thyroid cancer, Mercy meets the unique needs of survivors of thyroid cancer.

Us Too (prostate cancer)
A prostate cancer support group.

Zenith (young adults)
A unique monthly support group that offers networking opportunities for all young adult cancer survivors.

Look Good, Feel Better
A program for women who are dealing with the external effects of cancer treatment. The program is designed to provide women with information about wigs, turbans, and make-up.

KidFit Camp
Mercy's summer program is the perfect opportunity for kids, kindergarten through fifth grade, to learn about the importance of the Food Guide Pyramid, how to cook tasty and healthy recipes and why nutrition is so important for good health. Each class includes preparation of a healthy snack, fun games, and fitness activities.

Kidscook!
Kidscook! is a great opportunity for kids, kindergarten through fifth grade, to learn about the Food Guide Pyramid, the importance of balance and how to prepare healthy and flavorful snacks for themselves. Safe Sitter
The Safe Sitter course discusses the basics of starting a babysitting business. Adolescents age 11-15 years old learn safe, nurturing child care skills. The class includes interactions with infants and toddlers, small group discussions, role playing and hands-on practice in rescue skills.

Sibling Pre-School
Mercy's sibling pre-school class (ages 3, 4, and 5) introduces brothers and sisters of pre-school age to the concept and responsibility of being the older child. The class acquaints your child with the hospital and helps answer any questions about their new role in the family. Parents participate with the child as they practice such skills as holding the newborn, diapering and feeding.

Care for Caregivers Conference
Caring for another person can be both physically and emotionally challenging. The Annual Care for Caregivers Conference provides new resources, ideas and support in care giving, including strategies for emotional help and counseling.

Care for Caregivers Support Group
A support group for people who share the common experiences of caring for a loved one. Through regular contact with others in similar situations, members share a common bond and receive emotional support, discuss frustrations, strategies for care and receive current information from a certified instructor.

Basic Diabetes Management
An ADA recognized seven-hour class led by a Mercy nurse and dietician, with specialized training and knowledge in diabetes management. An excellent class for individuals with newly diagnosed diabetes or those needing an update. Topics covered include: proper nutrition, diabetes medications, monitoring, blood glucose control, physical activity, goal setting, problem solving, preventing and treating acute complications, preventing and treating chronic complication through risk assessment.

Diabetes Support Group
A support and resource group for people with diabetes and their family or friends. Topics covered at meetings include new research and products, community resources, and tips for every-day living. Everyone is welcome to participate in this forum of mutual support and information sharing.

Gestational Diabetes
Designed for women diagnosed with gestational diabetes or who already have diabetes and are pregnant. Class topics include complications of gestational diabetes, nutritional management, blood glucose monitoring and guidelines (sample meter and beginning supplies given), and insulin administration, if needed. For women with diabetes who are considering becoming pregnant, a pre-conception counseling appointment is recommended.

Individual Consults
Individual consultations are available with both the registered dietitian and registered nurse for diabetes education. Consults and follow-up appointments are scheduled individually on an as-needed basis for those unable to attend classes.

Intensive Insulin Therapy
This class is geared to people needing assistance in more advanced self-management skills and includes a discussion for Type 1's and some Type 2's on rapid- or short-acting insulin. Topics include carbohydrate counting, insulin to carbohydrate ratio, and a plan to safely manage hyperglycemia.

Ashtanga Yoga

A one hour class offered to help increase flexibility and reduce stress. The class is open to everyone. There is a $2 fee for Mercy Fitness Center members and a $4 fee for non-members.

Low Impact Aerobics

A one hour class offered to help increase cardiovascular health and strength. The first 30 minutes are spent doing aerobic exercise and the last half of class focuses on strength and flexibility training. The class is open to everyone. There is a $2 fee for Mercy Fitness Center members and a $4 fee for non-members.

Senior Thera-Band
A senior fitness class using theratubing to increase strength, flexibility and improved balance using specially designed exercise bands. The first 30 minutes focus on standing exercise and the last half is seated. There is a $2 cost for this class.

Healthy Healing
A support group for those who are grieving the death of a loved one. Through regular contact with others in similar situations, members share a common bond, receive emotional support and get current information from a trained instructor.

New Horizons Grief Support
Sometimes the best way to deal with the loss of a loved one is to share your feelings with others in the same situation. The New Horizon's support group offers a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on for you and your family.

PRIDE: Parents Responding to the Infant Death Experience
PRIDE is a support group for parents responding to an infant death experience. Through regular contact with others in similar situations, members share a common bond, receive emotional support and get current information from a certified instructor.

Healthy Weighs
A weight management program with an emphasis on learning how to modify behaviors that may lead to overeating. Healthy nutrition and increased physical activity are also encouraged.

Baby Care
This one-session class teaches basic baby care skills which include bathing, diapering, soothing an infant, caring for the umbilical cord and circumcision. The class also discusses car seat safety, home safety, selecting child care and selecting a pediatrician. Parenting and child development topics discussed along with many other important subjects. It is recommended that you enroll in this class by your 32nd week of pregnancy.

Baby Feeding
Breastfeeding is the most natural and nutritional way to encourage your baby's development. Expecting parents learn how to get breastfeeding off to a good start, mom's nutrition, dad's very important contributions to breastfeeding success and how to know baby is getting enough milk. The class also covers pumping, safe storage of breast milk, maintaining milk supply and keeping baby's interest in breastfeeding.

Childbirth
A five week course or one day course to help parents prepare for the experience of childbirth. Topics include breathing and relaxation techniques, anesthesia and other alternatives. Birthplace tours are available. Classes begin on a monthly basis with pre-registration available according to expected delivery date. It is recommended that enrollment happens by week 26 to 28 of pregnancy. Weekend courses are available.
Free if delivering at Mercy or $50.00 if delivering elsewhere.

Childbirth Refresher
A three week refresher course for women who are pregnant "the second time around." The course reviews the labor, delivery and postpartum experience, and includes a tour of The Birthplace. Husbands and/or coaches are encouraged to attend all sessions. Wear comfortable clothes and bring two pillows to class. In addition, class members are welcome to bring light snacks for themselves. Pre-registration is available according to expected delivery date. Free if delivering at Mercy or $25.00 if delivering elsewhere.

Healthy Start
The first trimester of a woman's pregnancy is critical to the development of a child. Healthy Start provides parents-to-be with information about nutrition, fetal development and growth, exercise, anatomy and physiology. It is recommended that you participate in this class in the first 10-20 weeks of pregnancy.

NICU Family Craft Class
A weekly class offered in partnership with the March of Dimes for parents whose children are hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

A weekly class offered in partnership with the March of Dimes for parents whose children are hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

NICU Graduate Support Group
The monthly discussion group provides education and support for the special needs of families with babies discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), in partnership with the March of Dimes. Get tips, hear from community professionals, offer insight and experience, show off pictures of your babies, and reward yourself with an evening out of the house. The group is led by a licensed clinical social worker.

INFO: Neurofibromatosis Support
A support group for people who share the common experiences and problems of neurofibromatosis. Through regular contact with others in similar situations, members share a common bond and receive emotional support, discuss symptoms, methods of relief and get current information from a certified instructor.

SOS: Survivors of Stroke
A support group for patients, families and friends who share the common experience and problems of stroke. Through regular contact with others in similar situations, members share a common bond and receive emotional support, discuss symptoms, treatments and receive current information from a certified instructor.

Pain Pals
A support group for patients, families and friends who have a loved one suffering with chronic pain. The book "Managing Pain Before it Manages You" will be followed to learn how to manage, function and cope with pain. The group teaches how to understand, effectively communicate and take control of your pain, as well as about proper nutrition and how to network with individuals in similar situations.

ABC Classes: After Baby Comes
A parent's life after baby comes is full of joy, laughter and dirty diapers. But, quite often it is also filled with questions. The ABC classes encourage parents to talk about topics that are affecting their lives. A registered nurse presents a brief lesson and then opens the floor for discussion. Meet other new parents, learn about resources to help you enjoy your baby and get ideas for managing life with your new bundle of joy.

Grandparenting
This class acquaints new or expecting grandparents with current childbearing and baby care practices The goal is to help them enjoy their new role and support the parents with their new baby. Nursery procedures, hygiene, comfort, nutrition, circumcision, treatment of newborn jaundice, medications and infant safety are discussed. A tour of the Birthplace is also included.

Infant & Child CPR
Mercy's infant and child CPR class follows guidelines set by the American Heart Association. The class provides information on performing CPR and relieving obstructed airways in infants and children up to the age of eight. Mercy encourages parents, grandparents and babysitters to take part in this class.

Parkinson's Exercise Group
An exercise program designed specifically for patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Instructors lead class sessions designed to teach patients strength, flexibility and coordination exercises.

Better Breathers

AARP Driving for Seniors
Age-related changes can affect driving skills. This class teaches participants about physical changes, rules of the road, local driving problems and safety tips.

The United Ostomy Associations of America
An affiliate of the United Ostomy Associations of America, this group offers mutual emotional aid and support through interaction with other people who have learned to live with an ostomy.
